Thanks for stopping by CNE Elementary School's Art Studio! This website is designed to keep
parents and students updated on what is going on in the art room and to give student's ideas and tips for creating art at
home.
Last year was amazing and we produced some incredible artwork
across all the grades! Our new art room gave us much more room to spread out and create some awesome masterpieces. One
of my favorite parts of the school year was our first ever Animal Art Night. On St. Patrick's Day we took over the Elementary
School gym and turned it into our own art studio. We had lots of different art stations set up around the gym where students
and their families could paint, draw, sculpt, and even have their faces painted. A portion of the money we raised we donated
to the Clermont County Animal Humane Society. It was a big success and I am looking forward to having another Art Night this
Spring.
This year in the art room we will be learning about new artists,
art techniques, and art terms that will help us become better artists. One of the techniques we will be focusing on this year
is our drawing skills. Studies have shown that students learn new concepts/topics better once they have drawn it. It
is my goal this year to combine art with cross curricular topics such as math, language arts and science to help increase
student comprehension in these areas as well as art. I also hope that in exploring and learning about many styles of
art and the different ways to create art that students will become independent and unique artists.
Here is a brief update on what to expect this school year.
I
will once again be posting all of our art projects on Artsonia, which not only lets us share the Artwork with friends and relatives
far away, but also offers us a wonderful way to earn funds for the artroom through the customized keepsakes. For each
art project I pick several examples to post from each class. I also try to mix it up and pick new students for each project.
My goal is to try and get a project from every student displayed on the website.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our website. I
am excited about the 2011-2012 school year and am looking forward to once again working with your children. One of the
best parts of my job is getting to watch how they grow as artists and people over the years. I hope you will always
feel welcome in the art room and enjoy all the masterpieces that the 2011-2012 school year will bring!
Thanks

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT!
Here is what we are doing right now in art class:
*Kindergarten:Students have been looking at and learning about
different styles of art by a variety of artists. We are currently learning
about abstract painter Jackson Pollock. For this project students will be
making a splatter painting using paint and marbles. We are then going to turn
this painting into a mystery animal! Up next students will be looking at
Vincent Van Gogh's flower still life paintings and making a picture based on
this.
*First Grade:In first grade we are learning about African American
artist Faith Ringgold. For this lesson we read Faith's story book, Tar
Beach, and spent time looking at her illustrations that were done on
quilts. In this story a little girl can fly over buildings and whatever
buildings she flies over she gets to keep. For our art project we are making a
picture of ourselves flying over buildings and we are basing our design on Faith Ringgold's illustrations. Up next
learning about the Ukrainian folk art tradition of decorating an egg, called Pysanky.

*Second
Grade:Second graders just finished learning about Ancient
Egyptian art. We studied their
style of painting people in profile view. For our art project we turned
ourselves into Pharaohs and painted ourselves like you would see on the walls of
Egyptian tombs. Up next we will be studying some of the great painters of the
late 19th century, Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet.

*Third Grade:We are wrapping up our project learning about African
American artist, Jacob Lawrence. We looked at Jacob's Migration series of
paintings and are making a cityscape painting based on these works. For our
project we are learning how to paint with paper- tissue paper that is! Up next
learning about the art of map making.
*Fourth
Grade: Students are right in the middle of working on
self-portraits based on the work of Columbus artist, Aminah Robinson. Aminah is
an African American artist who does collage style paintings where she
incorporates all sorts of found objects such as button, fabric, and yarn into
her paintings. Up next learning how to weave on cardboard looms.

*Fifth
Grade: In the fifth grade we have been working hard on
sculpting ancient figures out of plaster. Students picked an ancient
civilization to depict with their figures and did some research on their
civilization. They then began building their figure by bending together pipe
cleaners. Next they wrapped their figures with foil to give them their shape and
then added plaster gauze around the foil. We are right in the middle of
painting our figures and they are looking great. Up next making art in the
style of Charley Harper.
